Tram 28E is the best-known yellow tram and the Lisbon crowd-management lesson in the same ride. It runs between Campo Ourique and Martim Moniz, threading the hills through Estrela, Chiado, Baixa, and Alfama.

The reason to ride it is the street geometry. Tight turns, steep grades, little cars, old buildings close to the track: this is Lisbon's built environment in motion. It is also why the line gets packed and why pickpockets like it.

I would ride it early or late, not at midday. If the queue at Martim Moniz looks absurd, walk part of the route instead and use the tram later from a less obvious stop. The experience is the city, not proving you boarded at the famous terminus.
