Mike’s notes
Rennes has a metro that feels almost overpowered for the size of the city, in a good way. Two automated lines make the train station, old town, university-side movement, and edge neighborhoods easy.
For a visitor, the old town is still walking territory. The metro is what makes arrival and hotel choice less fussy. Stay near the center, use the metro for the station or longer jumps, and enjoy the fact that a medium-sized French city invested in real rail.
