Rocky Mountaineer is a daytime sightseeing train through western Canada. The large windows, onboard meals, and daylight schedule are the main product. Passengers sleep in hotels along the route rather than in train berths.
The current Canadian network has four rail patterns. First Passage to the West runs from Vancouver through Kamloops to either Banff or Lake Louise. Journey Through the Clouds uses the same Vancouver to Kamloops section before continuing to Jasper. Rainforest to Gold Rush starts in North Vancouver and reaches Jasper through Whistler and Quesnel.
Read the line as the rail portion
Rocky Mountaineer sells rail-only trips and larger packages. A package can continue by motorcoach to Calgary or add hotels and tours in places that the train does not serve. Those additions do not appear as railway stations here.
The diagrams also make the overnight pattern visible. Kamloops is the hotel stop on the two-day routes from Vancouver. Rainforest to Gold Rush uses hotel nights in Whistler and Quesnel over its three rail days. The train is stationary overnight, and passengers are transferred between the train and the assigned hotel.
Pack for a full day aboard
Checked luggage travels separately and is placed in the hotel room at the overnight stop. It is not available during the rail day. Medicine, identification, valuables, chargers, and a layer for changing temperatures belong in the carry-on bag.
The 2026 traveler requirements allow two checked pieces with a combined maximum weight of 30 kilograms. Package extensions and airline connections can have different rules, so the rail allowance does not settle the whole trip.
Confirm mobility requirements early
Boarding arrangements differ by station, and onboard movement can involve stairs and narrow passages. Rocky Mountaineer asks for mobility, medical, dietary, and equipment details before departure. Confirm the exact train and service level when a wheelchair, transfer assistance, oxygen, or another accommodation is required.
