Mike’s notes

Vale Passenger Trains serves Brazil. Vale runs the only two regular long-distance passenger services on Brazil’s federal concession railway network. One crosses Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo every day. The other links Maranhão and Pará three days per direction each week.

Passenger trains on the Vitória–Minas railway date to the early twentieth century. The Carajás passenger service began in 1986, one year after the mineral railway opened. Both remain working regional transport as well as unusually long rail journeys.

Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Long locomotive-hauled trains provide seated cars, accessible space, air-conditioning, toilets, and food service. The Carajás journey takes about 16 hours, while the full Vitória–Minas trip takes about 13 and a half hours.

Pedro Nolasco is in Cariacica rather than central Vitória. The Belo Horizonte terminal is separate from the city metro. At Desembargador Drummond in Nova Era, the Itabira train connects with the main Vitória–Minas corridor.

Accessibility: Vale provides a wheelchair car and assistance, but several intermediate stops are basic platforms. Arrange help in advance and confirm which station entrance is used.

The Vitória–Minas train runs daily in both directions. The Carajás train leaves São Luís on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, then returns from Parauapebas on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. Check the dated Vale notice before building a connection around it.
