Day trips from Ho Chi Minh City

Viet Nam, Asia

HCMC has direct tour and transfer options for Cu Chi, Vung Tau, and the Mekong Delta. Dawn floating markets and river homestays require lodging near Can Tho or Cai Be, while My Tho tours from the city involve more bus time and staged stops.

WhereGetting thereWhy go
Cu Chi TunnelsAbout 1 hr 30 each way by van tourThe tunnel network northwest of HCMC, with crawl-through sections, war-history displays, and two main visitor sites. Ben Dinh is closer and common on group tours. Ben Duoc is farther and usually quieter. Half-day to full-day.
Vung TauAbout 2 hr each way by hydrofoil or carThe closest beach town to HCMC, with the giant Christ of Vung Tau statue and a working city-beach feel. Hydrofoils, road transfers, and waterfront hotels provide the logistics. Expect city beach conditions, not island-blue water.
Mekong Delta (Cai Be, Can Tho)About 3 hr each way; dawn floating markets require lodging near Can ThoThe river-life add-on, with floating markets at dawn, homestays on the river, and rice-noodle workshops. My Tho day tours are shorter from HCMC, but Can Tho or Cai Be gives the trip more substance.
