Pattaya is a city in Eastern Thailand, the second-largest city in Chonburi province and the eighth-largest city in Thailand. It is on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast of Bangkok, and has a population of 351,391 as of 2025.

Pattaya is the beach-resort town on the Gulf of Thailand, about two hours by car from Bangkok. The international resort hotels cluster on the south side, in Jomtien and Pratumnak. Book one of those, settle in, and treat the resort as the trip.
Pattaya sits about 110 km southeast of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK), or 35 km northwest of U-Tapao (UTP). BKK is the international gateway for almost every traveler.

Stay in a resort on the south side, in Jomtien or Pratumnak, where the international beachfront hotels are. This is a pick-the-hotel-and-stay-there trip. You settle in, use the pool, and order in when you want to, so the property matters more than the location. The two I have stayed in are both on that side. Think of it as intimate versus family.

In Pattaya, choose the hotel first. Andaz is the resort-campus version: beach, pools, low buildings, and enough internal space that you do not need to make a town itinerary around it.
InterContinental is the more compact version of the same idea: villa-style rooms, ocean-facing corners, and a stronger sense of being tucked into the hillside. Book on points if you have them, and treat either property as the destination.
Pattaya food runs from the casual Thai street stall to the dressed-up resort dinner, with the imported international scene (Italian, German, American, Russian) reflecting the long-stay expat market. The picks below mix the casual evening with the better neighborhood spots.
