Mike's review
Acropolis Museum works best after, or just before, the Acropolis itself. The building sits at the foot of the hill and keeps the relationship visible: glass floors over excavation, galleries arranged upward through archaic and classical material, and the Parthenon Gallery turned to face the temple.
Spend the most time in the Parthenon Gallery. The room uses a rectangular core with the same orientation and dimensions as the Parthenon's cella. Frieze blocks, metopes, and pediment sculptures are placed so you can read how they belonged to the building. The museum makes the sculptures feel architectural instead of like a row of isolated objects.
From the source
The Acropolis Museum stands at the south foot of the hill, with galleries arranged around the monuments and finds from the Acropolis. A glass-floored ramp displays objects from settlements on the slopes. The first floor holds Archaic sculpture and the original Caryatids, while the top-floor Parthenon Gallery aligns with the temple and sets surviving frieze, metope, and pediment blocks in their architectural sequence.
The building opened in 2009. Beneath it, an excavated Athenian neighborhood remains visible through glass floors and from a separate walkway opened to the public in 2019. The excavation museum added displays of objects from those houses and workshops in 2024. Museum admission is separate from Acropolis site admission, so each requires its own ticket.
