Visited 2023Cala Cantalar is a small rocky cove northeast of central Alicante, out past Cabo de las Huertas, and one of the more secluded beaches near the city. The water is clearer and the crowds thinner than at Postiguet or San Juan. You reach it on foot from the edge of a quiet residential neighborhood, with a little street parking nearby, and there are no facilities at all: no bathrooms, no bar, no shade. Pack everything you need and wear water shoes for the rocks.
The seclusion is the point. It's easy to find your own patch of rock and just sit with the water, a few blocks out of the city but far enough to feel away from it. I liked it best at sunset. One thing to know before you go: it's clothing optional, so it's not the right spot for everyone.
