Central do Brasil Station

Central do Brasil is Rio's main suburban railway terminal and the common transfer point for TrensRJ, MetrôRio, the VLT, and city buses. The first station opened here in 1858 as the terminus of the Estrada de Ferro Dom Pedro II. The current Art Deco building opened in 1943 as part of the reshaping of Avenida Presidente Vargas.

The clock tower is the landmark. Its four square clock faces sit about 110 meters above the street and can be seen across central Rio. The building is still a working, often hectic station, so come for the architecture with normal big-city awareness and keep track of the last train on the branch you need.
