About
Fisherman's Bastion is the white arcaded viewing terrace behind Matthias Church on Castle Hill. It looks medieval, but Frigyes Schulek built the present structure from 1899 to 1902 while reshaping the church's surroundings. He retained parts of the older fortress system and opened the walls into stairways, benches, towers and covered arcades built for views rather than defense.
The terraces face the Danube, Parliament and Pest. Lower levels remain open without a ticket, while the upper lookout uses seasonal staffed hours and admission.
