About
La Boqueria is the covered market entered from La Rambla. Food sellers were documented here by 1217, but the present market took shape after the former Sant Josep convent was cleared in the 1830s. The foundation stone was laid in 1840, and the metal roof followed in 1914. It now mixes working produce, meat, and seafood stalls with counters serving prepared food. Individual stalls can close before the market building.
