This UNESCO record groups three separate Byzantine monasteries: Daphni near Athens, Hosios Loukas near Delphi, and Nea Moni on Chios. They are not one easy cluster. The link is architectural and artistic: 11th- and 12th-century churches with cross-in-square plans, domes, marble work, and gold-ground mosaics.
For an Athens trip, Daphni is the practical one to understand first. Look for brick and stone masonry, the main church, and the restored mosaic program. Hosios Loukas and Nea Moni need their own travel planning, so do not treat this pin as a single day in the city.

This UNESCO designation joins three separate middle Byzantine monasteries: Daphni in Attica near Athens, Hosios Loukas in Phocis near Delphi, and Nea Moni on Chios. They are geographically separate places. Daphni is the Athens-area component, while the other two require separate trips.
Their main churches use related cross-in-square plans, with large domes carried over octagonal central spaces. Marble revetments and gold-background mosaics from the eleventh and twelfth centuries connect the three sites. Daphni's church and mosaics underwent major restoration after the 1999 earthquake. Hours, access, and admission differ by monastery, so practical details should be checked for the specific component rather than this combined UNESCO record.
