Visited 2026My favorite museum in Madrid. It is housed in Delicias station, which opened in 1880 and served trains for about ninety years before becoming the railway museum in 1984.
The iron-and-glass train shed is a large part of the visit. Locomotives and carriages sit on the original tracks, so you can walk through the development of Spanish railways without losing the station around them. The museum keeps shorter hours than many Madrid attractions and changes its schedule by season. Check the official hours for the day rather than assuming it will stay open into the evening.
