Worth the Alexandria detour more for the setting than the displays: limestone passages, small sea-facing openings, and the harbor edge make the old Pharos geography click. I’d pair it with a waterfront lunch rather than treat it like a long museum stop.

From the source

15th-century Mamluk sea fort on Pharos Island, built by Sultan al-Ashraf Qaitbay from 1477 to 1479 over the ruins of Alexandria’s Lighthouse. It was part of Alexandria’s Mediterranean coastal defense.
