Visited 2025Everyone goes here, like the Louvre, but it is worth seeing. Dutch masters aren't my forte, but I still enjoyed the museum the times I went. There are usually lines, so reserve a starting time ahead rather than deciding at the door.

The Rijksmuseum is the Netherlands' national museum of art and history. Its current building, designed by Pierre Cuypers and opened in 1885, combines Gothic and Renaissance forms around a passage that still carries bicycles through the middle. Inside, the Gallery of Honour leads toward Rembrandt's Night Watch, with works by Vermeer, Frans Hals, Jan Steen and other Dutch masters in the side galleries.
Everyone needs a booked starting time, including Museumkaart holders. Museumkaart admission is free, but the reservation is still required. The museum says crowds are usually lighter before 11:00 and after 15:30. Tickets are sold online.
