Visited 2019Roman Agora is smaller and tighter than the Athenian Agora, but that is part of why it works. It sits right in the Plaka-Monastiraki walking zone, so you feel the later city crowding around the ancient commercial space.
I liked it as a compact Roman-layer stop: gates, columns, paving, and the Tower of the Winds all close together. It is not the grandest site in Athens, but it makes the city timeline easier to read.

The Roman Agora is a compact rectangular market east of the older Athenian Agora. A marble courtyard once held stoas, shops, and warehouses. Augustus and members of the family of Herodes Atticus financed its construction around 19-11 BCE as commercial activity shifted into a purpose-built Roman market.
The Gate of Athena Archegetis still marks the western entrance with four Doric columns and a Pentelic-marble pediment. On the east side, the Tower of the Winds combined a clock, sundials, and a weather vane. Only about half of the original complex has been excavated. The rest remains beneath the surrounding streets and buildings, which explains the site's abrupt edges. Roman Agora admission includes access to the Tower of the Winds when its interior is open.
