About
San Jose's National Theatre opened in 1897, seven years after the government ordered a national stage for a capital of roughly 20,000 people. The neoclassical exterior is restrained compared with the marble, murals, and gilding inside. Guided visits run hourly and are the practical way to see the building when there is no performance.
