Athens Tram 6

T6 connects Syntagma in central Athens with Neos Kosmos, Nea Smyrni, Paleo Faliro, and Pikrodafni on the coast. It is the tram route that carries the city-center branch to the interchange with coastal T7.

Modern Athens tram service opened in 2004, including the central branch built for the Olympic period. The T6 name was introduced when the network was reorganized, and Syntagma service returned after long construction-related interruptions.

The standard fare is €1.20 for 90 minutes. Visa and Mastercard bank cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay can be tapped at the platform validator, or an Ath.ena Ticket can be validated before boarding. Use the same contactless card or device throughout the day for the €4.10 urban cap.

T6 uses articulated low-floor trams with climate control. The fleet includes the original 2004 cars and newer vehicles delivered from 2021. Street running and closely spaced stops make the tram slower than the parallel metro for some central trips.

Low-floor vehicles provide accessible boarding at the raised stops, but platform approaches may cross traffic lanes. Wheelchair users should allow for ramps and street crossings rather than assuming a fully enclosed station. Keep clear of the track when platforms sit in the road median.
