Mike’s notes
Belo Horizonte Metro serves Belo Horizonte. Belo Horizonte currently has one operating metro line. It crosses the north side, central Belo Horizonte, and Contagem, which makes it useful when a destination sits close to the corridor and less useful for trips into the hillier southern neighborhoods.
Passenger service began in 1986. Metrô BH took over the concession in 2023, and the operating network remains Line 1 while Line 2 construction proceeds separately.

Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Electric metro trains use a mostly surface alignment with a central underground section. The ride is closer to suburban heavy rail than to a compact underground metro.
Central and Lagoinha are the main city-center access points. Vilarinho, São Gabriel, and Eldorado connect with large bus terminals.
Accessibility: Modernized stations have lifts or ramps, but access quality is not identical across this older system. Check the station page for a step-free trip.
Line 2 and other expansion projects are not part of the operating map until passenger service begins.
