Mike’s notes

CBTU Natal serves Natal metropolitan area. CBTU Natal uses one central terminal for two long suburban lines. It reaches communities well beyond the tourist waterfront, but the limited timetable requires planning.

The system grew from the regional railway north and south of Natal. Diesel VLT equipment replaced older suburban trains, and recent extensions pushed the South Line beyond Parnamirim.

Riding the network

The current fare is R$2.50. Buy through CBTU and check the operator’s dated schedule before leaving for the station.

Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Diesel light-rail vehicles run on mostly single track with passing points. Journey times and frequency reflect that railway rather than a rapid-transit metro.

Natal station is the common terminal. The North Line runs to Ceará-Mirim, and the South Line serves Parnamirim, São José de Mipibu, and Nísia Floresta.

Accessibility: Boarding platforms differ by station, and some outer stops have basic facilities. Confirm accessibility directly with CBTU when needed.

The two lines do not form a frequent cross-city service. A transfer at Natal can involve a long wait.

Check CBTU Natal for the dated operating notice before a time-sensitive trip.
