Hellenic Train Passenger Rail Thessaloniki–Florina Regional Railway

The regional line connects Thessaloniki with Platy, Veroia, Naoussa, Edessa, Amyntaio, and Florina in western Macedonia. Two direct train pairs currently cover the route each day in about three hours.

The railway toward Bitola opened in the Ottoman period and later became a domestic Greek route to Florina. The Edessa to Florina section spent years under bus replacement before direct trains reopened in 2026.

Buy a Hellenic Train ticket online, in the app, or at an operating ticket office. There is no contactless bank-card tap-in system for the journey. A round-trip or multi-journey product may be available, but confirm the exact departure because frequency is low.

Regional diesel rolling stock is used beyond the electrified Thessaloniki approaches. Seating and air-conditioning are provided, but vehicle allocation and onboard facilities can change more readily than on the Athens to Thessaloniki Intercity line.

Station lift equipment is listed at Thessaloniki, Platy, and Edessa, while intermediate and western stations have uneven step-free access. Hellenic Train requires advance planning for most unscheduled wheelchair journeys, so arrange assistance at least 24 hours ahead.
