Hellenic Train Passenger Rail Thessaloniki–Larissa Regional Railway

The regional line connects Thessaloniki with Sindos, Platy, Katerini, Litochoro, Leptokarya, Neoi Poroi, and Larissa. It links the two main northern cities with the Pieria coast in about an hour and a half.

The corridor opened as part of the through Greek main line in the early 20th century. Modern electric regional service was introduced after the line was upgraded, and the current timetable provides multiple daily trains in both directions.

Buy a Hellenic Train ticket through the website or app or at an operating office. A normal bank card cannot be tapped as the travel credential on this line. Regional tickets are not tied as tightly to one departure as reserved Intercity tickets under current validity rules.

Hellenic Train describes the service as modern electric rolling stock with capacity around 500 passengers. Trains have air-conditioning and open seating, with crowding most likely around Thessaloniki commuting times and summer trips to the coast.
