History

This line uses track that opened in stages as the network grew.

Magdeburg introduced S-Bahn service in 1974. The remaining S1 follows the main north-south railway through the city and continues far beyond the urban area.

Tickets and trains

Use the local transport association’s ticket or app. The Deutschland-Ticket covers participating S-Bahn and Regio-S-Bahn service, but not ICE, IC, or EC trains. Check the dated journey in the operator planner when engineering work changes the route.
