U3 is the Munich U-Bahn line for Olympiapark and the northern Olympic sites, plus the south-side run toward Thalkirchen.

The Olympic connection is the historical one: Munich built the U-Bahn into the city's 1972 Olympics moment, and U3 still makes that geography easy. If the day includes Olympiapark, BMW Welt, or the Olympic tower area, U3 is the line that shows up.

South of the center, U3 also helps with the Thalkirchen side, including the more seasonal river-surfing/water edge if you are chasing that beyond the Eisbach.
