Mike’s notes
The Tren del Valle is the weekday regional railway between Cipolletti, Neuquén, and Plottier. It crosses the Neuquén River between Río Negro and Neuquén provinces, then follows the urban corridor west through the bus terminal and airport area.
Passenger trains began between Neuquén and Cipolletti in July 2015. The route extended 16 kilometers west to Plottier on March 29, 2021, returning there after 28 years. Seven intermediate stops followed. ETON and Aeropuerto opened on November 9, 2022, connecting both the long-distance bus terminal and the commercial airport to the railway.
Cross-river trains were interrupted again, but service to Cipolletti returned in February 2025. The operator's current sheet retains a February 3, 2025 timetable and June 1, 2026 fares. Some trains run only between Neuquén and Cipolletti, while others start or finish at intermediate stops on the Plottier side.
SUBE is the only published fare medium. The card is validated aboard after authorization from the conductor. The current rolling stock is a small diesel fleet with basic seating, and the timetable remains much thinner than an urban metro.
The airport and ETON projects included improved pedestrian access, but the operator does not publish a complete level-boarding guide for the line. Boarding assistance should be confirmed before travel when a platform gap or steps are a concern.
