The Posadas–Encarnación train is an eight-minute shuttle between Argentina and Paraguay. It crosses the Paraná River on the San Roque González de Santa Cruz road-and-rail bridge. Immigration and customs at the terminals make the complete trip longer than the ride itself.
The shuttle began service in 2014. The operator is Casimiro Zbikoski, working under an agreement with Trenes Argentinos, which is why the train appears on the state operator's site without being a normal domestic regional route.
Buy a ticket at either terminal. Posadas accepts cash, debit or credit cards in one payment, and SUBE Misionera for the fare. Encarnación accepts Argentine pesos or Paraguayan guaraníes in cash. The international service does not apply the usual domestic discounts for pensioners or passengers with a CUD. Children under three ride free.
Bring a valid document accepted at the border. Adults traveling with minors need the records that prove the relationship and any required permission from an absent parent. Goods bought across the border still pass through customs.
The compact diesel railcar has simple seating for a short ride. The published schedule runs every 30 minutes from morning through early evening, Monday through Saturday. The border crossing itself may operate around the clock, but the train does not. Bridge work can cancel blocks of service, and the operator does not publish a detailed accessibility guide. Confirm assistance before arriving when boarding support is required.
