Promet Split 12

Bus 12 is the Marjan bailout line. It starts at Sv. Frane, right at the west edge of the Riva, then runs around the Meje side of the peninsula toward Kaštelet, Kašjuni, Bene, and back toward town. Use it when the Marjan walk turns into a hot afternoon and you would rather move between beaches than prove a point.

Promet signs the route Sv. Frane - Bene / Bene - Sv. Frane, and the practical mental model is a short Marjan loop rather than a city-crossing bus. There is an important current caveat: Promet's service notice says Line 12 is temporarily shortened to a Kašjuni turnaround while work continues near the Institute. Treat Bene as the normal route shape, then check the current Promet timetable or live bus map before you build the day around the far end.

The practical traveler pattern is simple: start in the old town, cross the Riva, walk through Veli Varoš, climb into Marjan, then use Bus 12 as the release valve. Kaštelet is the first beach-side stop that matters, Kašjuni is the prettier Marjan swim, and Bene is the forest-park beach when the full route is running. The stops are still road stops, not resort drop-offs, so expect a short walk down or across to the water.

I would use it more on weekdays than as a weekend beach guarantee. The service is useful but not frequent enough to ignore the timetable, and Marjan's roads and paths can make "nearby" feel longer in summer heat. If the bus is there, great. If not, the walk back toward the Riva is still one of the better urban-coast walks in Split.
