History

This line uses track that opened in stages as the network grew.

The Rhine-Main S-Bahn opened in 1978. Its central tunnel carries most lines through Frankfurt before they spread toward Wiesbaden, Hanau, Darmstadt, and the Taunus.

Tickets and trains

Use the local transport association’s ticket or app. The Deutschland-Ticket covers participating S-Bahn and Regio-S-Bahn service, but not ICE, IC, or EC trains. Check the dated journey in the operator planner when engineering work changes the route.
