The routes descend from several nineteenth-century railways and were operated by SuperVia for decades. TrensRJ took over passenger operation on May 30, 2026. The present route opened through those stages.

Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Electric multiple units handle the main branches. The Vila Inhomirim and Guapimirim extensions have different infrastructure and can use separate connecting service patterns.
