TrensRJ serves Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area. TrensRJ covers the broad part of metropolitan Rio that the metro does not. Central do Brasil feeds branches to Deodoro, Santa Cruz, Japeri, Belford Roxo, and Saracuruna, with extensions to Paracambi, Vila Inhomirim, and Guapimirim.
The routes descend from several nineteenth-century railways and were operated by SuperVia for decades. TrensRJ took over passenger operation on May 30, 2026.
Riding the network
Use the fare media currently accepted by TrensRJ and confirm whether contactless validation is available at both ends. Outer stations can have fewer sales options.
Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Electric multiple units handle the main branches. The Vila Inhomirim and Guapimirim extensions have different infrastructure and can use separate connecting service patterns.
Central do Brasil connects with MetrôRio and the VLT. São Cristóvão and Maracanã are key shared stations, while Deodoro, Japeri, and Saracuruna organize the outer branches.
Accessibility: Accessibility varies across 104 stations. Central and the principal interchanges have the most complete facilities, but older outer platforms can be difficult.
Extensions are not always through services. Read the destination and allow time for a change at Japeri or Saracuruna.
