Bonde de Santa Teresa serves Rio de Janeiro. The Santa Teresa tram is both neighborhood transport and one of Rio’s most recognizable rides. Its low capacity means it cannot absorb every visitor who arrives at the Carioca terminal.
The system dates to 1877 and was electrified in the 1890s. The present route crosses the old Carioca Aqueduct, then climbs through Santa Teresa on street track. Branch restoration has continued in stages.

Tickets are sold at Estação Carioca, with limited sales at Curvelo when capacity allows. The operator currently accepts cash and debit or credit cards.
Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Open-sided yellow trams run at street speed. Capacity is 32 passengers, and departures can sell out before the published closing time.
Estação Carioca is near the Carioca metro area, but it is not inside the metro station. The tram gives access to Curvelo and Largo do Guimarães, with longer branches operating only when the same-day notice confirms them.
Accessibility: The heritage cars and street platforms are difficult for many wheelchair users. Boarding also involves steps and narrow openings.
