Mike’s notes
Trensurb serves Porto Alegre. Trensurb runs north from central Porto Alegre through Canoas, Esteio, Sapucaia do Sul, and São Leopoldo to Novo Hamburgo.
Commercial service began in 1985 and reached Novo Hamburgo in 2014. The 2024 floods caused severe damage, followed by a long reconstruction program.
Riding the network
SIM, TRI, and TEU fare products are accepted under the current integration rules. Buy a return before late events when station sales may be busy.
Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Electric trains run the 43.8-kilometer line. Peak frequency is higher on weekdays, with wider gaps on Sundays.
Mercado and Rodoviária serve central Porto Alegre. Aeroporto station is beside the airport connection, but the Aeromóvel remains out of service after flood damage.
Accessibility: Stations have ramps, lifts, or escalators depending on the structure. Flood reconstruction can temporarily alter accessible routes.
The rail line is operating, but the separate Aeromóvel airport shuttle remains suspended. Use the replacement ground connection.
