The Tren Limache-Puerto runs from the Valparaíso waterfront through Viña del Mar, Quilpué, and Villa Alemana to Limache. It is the only line in the EFE Valparaíso network.
The waterfront section gives direct access to Puerto, Bellavista, Francia, and Barón. The railway enters a tunnel through central Viña del Mar, then returns to the surface inland.
The modern service opened in 2005 on the route of the old Valparaíso-Santiago railway. Barón retains the clearest connection to the first railway and its former workshops.
Fares are divided into zones. Use the current EFE Valparaíso card or supported payment method and check the balance before entering.
Peak service is frequentest in the main commute direction. At quieter times, read the timetable for the Limache end rather than assuming metro-style frequency.
The fleet includes the established two-car electric units and new three-car trains entering service from April 2026. The newer trains add air conditioning, passenger information screens, retractable steps, and more standing space. Peak departures can still be crowded along the Viña and Quilpué section.
Puerto connects with trolleybuses, buses, and the lower city. Limache has connecting buses for destinations beyond the railway. Those transfers are separate from simply changing trains.
Central Viña stations are underground and the rest are mainly surface or elevated. EFE provides accessible routes, but waterfront road crossings can add time to the approach.
