Mike’s notes

ŽRS passenger rail is a small set of regional services rather than a national network. The current timetable is valid from December 14, 2025, through December 12, 2026. It lists three operating corridors.

Where the trains run

Doboj to Banja Luka follows the main east-west railway through Stanari, Ukrina, and Čelinac. Banja Luka to Dobrljin continues west through Prijedor and Novi Grad toward the Croatian border. Doboj to Petrovo Novo is a separate local branch.

The trains serve Banja Luka, Prijedor, and Doboj, but there are few departures. Check the outbound and return times before planning the rest of the trip.

Can you continue to Sarajevo?

No through passenger train currently connects Banja Luka with Sarajevo. The ŽRS timetable reaches Doboj. The ŽFBH timetable reaches Maglaj from Sarajevo. No scheduled passenger train bridges the section between them.

A route planner may draw the continuous railway and imply a connection. The passenger timetables do not support it. Use a bus for Sarajevo to Banja Luka.

Confirming a departure

The ŽRS journey planner is the primary timetable source. The operator also publishes ticket-office numbers, including Banja Luka at +387 51 336 411, Doboj at +387 53 209 009, and Prijedor at +387 52 211 021.

Check the exact departure before going to the station, especially on corridors with only one or two trains in a direction.
