São Paulo is the South American megacity travelers visit far less than they should. The food is among the best in the Americas, the rodízio steakhouse and the world's largest Japanese diaspora both start here, and the neighborhoods read sharply distinct.
São Paulo São Paulo / Guarulhos International (the international gateway. CGH is the domestic alternative) (GRU) is served by two airports: Guarulhos (GRU) for international, 25 km north of the city, and Congonhas (CGH) for domestic, 8 km south. GRU is the gateway for almost every international traveler.

Once you are in the city, the São Paulo Metro is the cleanest public-transport layer for Paulista, Liberdade, Pinheiros, and the central hotel corridors. The metropolitan trains matter more for airport and outer-district trips.
São Paulo's calendar is heavier than Rio's outside Carnival. Pride, Carnival, F1, and a few arts weeks are the dates that change hotels or streets.
