São Paulo Metro serves São Paulo. The metro is the core of São Paulo’s rail network, but several lines are operated by concessionaires and the same numbered map also includes separate metropolitan trains.
Line 1 opened in 1974. The network expanded through conventional metro lines, Line 15’s monorail, and Line 17, which began transitional passenger operation in 2026.

Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Most lines use conventional electric metro trains. Lines 15 and 17 use elevated monorails, with Line 17 still running restricted transitional hours.
Sé, Paraíso, Ana Rosa, Luz, República, Pinheiros, Santo Amaro, Tamanduateí, and Barra Funda are major transfer stations. Some transfers connect to CPTM rather than another metro line.
Accessibility: Stations have lifts or accessible routes, but long transfer passages and outages can add distance. Use the operator’s access notice for a step-free trip.
Line 17 operates weekdays during restricted daytime hours and branches at Brooklin Paulista for Congonhas and Washington Luís.
