The Arch of Constantine stands between the Colosseum and the Palatine, outside the ticketed archaeological area. It was dedicated in 315 CE after Constantine's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge.
Much of its decoration came from older monuments built for Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius. The reused statues, roundels and relief panels make the arch a visible record of how late imperial builders adapted earlier public art. It can be viewed free from the pedestrian area around the Colosseum.
