Čertovka Canal

Čertovka is a narrow artificial side channel of the Vltava that separates Kampa from Malá Strana. Small bridges cross between old houses, and the large wooden wheel of the former Grand Priory Mill remains the clearest landmark along the water. A mill stood here by about 1400.

The channel was called the Rosenberg Race in 1585 after landowner Vilém of Rožmberk. Its present name, often translated as the Devil’s Stream, came from the nearby Seven Devils House. Views from public streets and footbridges are free at all hours. The canal is easy to combine with Kampa Park, Charles Bridge and the Lennon Wall.
