Estação da Luz

Estação da Luz is both one of São Paulo's busiest rail interchanges and one of its best-known historic buildings. Railway service began here in 1867. The current station opened in 1901 in a Victorian style associated with the British-built São Paulo Railway, which carried coffee from the interior to Santos.

Today Luz connects metro Lines 1 and 4 with metropolitan rail. The Museu da Língua Portuguesa occupies part of the building, while the Pinacoteca sits across the park. This is a functioning central-city station, not a preserved set piece. The architecture is worth seeing, but pay attention to your surroundings around the station.
