Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour
Perth, Australia
About
Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour remains a working port, not only a restaurant precinct. Fishermen used the natural shelter at South Bay before the harbor was formally established in 1924. Southern European migrants, particularly families from Italy, later helped expand the local fishing industry. That history remains visible in the commercial boats and in the annual Blessing of the Fleet, held in Fremantle since 1948. Public boardwalks now connect seafood restaurants, Little Creatures, the Jetty memorial, and the Bon Scott statue. Major upgrades for the 1987 America's Cup accelerated the shift toward recreation and tourism, but operational jetties and work areas still have restricted access.
