About
Paseo del Buen Pastor is an open cultural and restaurant complex in Nueva Córdoba, directly across from the Capuchin church. The plaza, dancing fountain, exhibition rooms, and preserved chapel occupy the site of the former Buen Pastor women's asylum and prison.
The Good Shepherd congregation began building the complex in 1897 and completed it in 1906. It operated as a women's prison for almost a century and later held political prisoners. Twenty-six women escaped in an organized breakout in 1975. Most prison wings were demolished during redevelopment, but the facade and José Montblanch's 1905 chapel remain. Since 2007, the chapel has served as an exhibition and small-event space. Memorial tiles and part of the old prison gate keep the site's prison history visible.
