Plaza San Martín Córdoba

Plaza San Martín is Córdoba's original central square, with the Cathedral and Cabildo facing its shaded paths. The colonial city plan placed the Plaza Mayor here in 1577, and for centuries it served as a market, cart stop, festival ground, and civic stage.

The equestrian monument to General José de San Martín was installed in 1916. The current landscaping follows redesigns associated with Carlos Thays and later Carlos David, which turned the former market square into a planted public promenade. Look for the Kilómetro 0 marker on the Buenos Aires street side, used since 1937 as the starting point for Córdoba's provincial road distances.
