Bangkok Airport Rail Link is the cheap, sane way to beat the long Suvarnabhumi traffic leg when your hotel lines up with rail. It runs from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai, where you can change to BTS, with Makkasan as the MRT/Phetchaburi-side transfer.
The fare is low enough that it feels silly not to consider it: the full airport-to-Phaya Thai ride is about 45 baht. The catch is the final mile. If you still need a Grab or taxi from Phaya Thai with bags, the total experience may be less pleasant than just taking a car from the airport.
My rule is simple: use Airport Rail Link when the hotel is on the BTS/MRT spine and you packed light. Use Grab or the official taxi rank when it is late, hot, raining, or your hotel is not close to rail. Bangkok rewards practical laziness.
