The Tren Universitario de La Plata connects La Plata railway station with university faculties, the Bosque, Policlínico San Martín, Meridiano V, and Hospital San Juan de Dios. It is a public urban train, not a service restricted to students.

The line opened on April 26, 2013 after the Universidad Nacional de La Plata led a project to recover disused city tracks. Its first route ended at Policlínico San Martín. An extension around the old Circunvalación alignment opened to Hospital San Juan de Dios in September 2023.

Use SUBE for the fare and check the current Roca timetable before traveling. The service is useful for specific destinations along the loop, but it does not run with the frequency of the Constitución to La Plata branch. Connections are made at La Plata's main station.

A rebuilt Nohab diesel railcar provides the service, with much more limited seating than a full suburban train. Platforms are small and the operator does not publish a complete station-by-station wheelchair guide. Confirm step-free boarding or assistance before the trip if mobility access is essential.
