Roca Line Roca: Constitución–La Plata

The Roca Constitución to La Plata branch connects Buenos Aires with Avellaneda, Quilmes, Berazategui, City Bell, and the center of La Plata. It is the direct public transport option between the national and provincial capitals.

Rail service to the newly founded city of La Plata opened in the 1880s. The route eventually became part of the Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway and took the Roca name after nationalization in 1948. Electric service replaced diesel trains on this branch in 2017.

Use SUBE for the fare and tap at both ends where validators are provided. Plaza Constitución is a large terminal with Subte Line C downstairs. Trains can be crowded through the inner suburbs, so the trip is more comfortable outside the workday commute.

Modern electric trains have air-conditioned interiors and open circulation between cars. Many stations were rebuilt with raised platforms for the fleet, though wheelchair access, elevators, and platform gaps still vary. At La Plata, the separate Tren Universitario leaves from the same railway complex for the university and hospital corridor.
