Sarmiento Line Sarmiento: Merlo–Lobos

The Sarmiento Merlo to Lobos branch connects the main Once to Moreno line with Mariano Acosta, Marcos Paz, General Las Heras, and Lobos. Change at Merlo for the frequent electric service into Buenos Aires.

The branch opened in the nineteenth century under the Buenos Aires Western Railway, extending passenger rail south from Merlo toward the provincial interior. It became part of the Sarmiento network after nationalization in 1948. The present stopping train covers the historic route to Lobos.

Use SUBE for the fare where validators are available and check the diesel timetable before leaving. Departures are limited and connections at Merlo are not guaranteed. Lobos also has a separate Roca route through Cañuelas, so make sure the return plan uses the intended station and operator page.

Diesel rolling stock covers the branch, with simpler interiors and more limited seating than the air-conditioned electric trains on the main line. Rural platforms, station staffing, and wheelchair access vary. Confirm assistance before travel if step-free boarding is required.
