The Sarmiento line connects Once with Moreno through Caballito, Flores, Liniers, Haedo, Morón, and the western suburbs. At Moreno, a diesel branch continues to Mercedes. A second diesel branch leaves the main line at Merlo and runs to Lobos.
The railway opened in 1857 as Argentina's first passenger line, running from the old Parque station to Floresta. It expanded west and took the Sarmiento name after nationalization in 1948.
Use SUBE on the metropolitan network. Once is connected to Plaza Miserere on Subte Line A, but the transfer includes a walk through a busy terminal. Peak trains are extremely crowded, especially between Once and the inner western neighborhoods.
Once to Moreno uses modern air-conditioned electric trains with wide doors and standing space. The Mercedes and Lobos branches use diesel equipment and have much thinner schedules. Wheelchair access is more consistent on the rebuilt main-line platforms than at the smaller outer stations.
The electric main line is a straightforward corridor, but the outer trains are separate services. Change at Moreno for Mercedes and at Merlo for Lobos. The Bragado long-distance train also uses Once and part of the same railway, yet it has reserved tickets and its own stopping pattern. A platform display marked Bragado is not another Moreno commuter train.
Tap SUBE on entry and exit. The gates initially reserve the maximum fare and settle the distance when the trip is closed. The line carries heavy daily demand, and planned signaling, station, and level-crossing work can close sections on weekends. Check the live service notice before relying on the first or last train.
