The Tren de la Costa connects Avenida Maipú with Delta in Tigre along the northern river suburbs. It stops near San Isidro, San Fernando, and several residential areas between them. The transfer from the Mitre line at Bartolomé Mitre requires a short walk to Avenida Maipú.
The route uses part of the former Tigre R branch of the Mitre railway. Passenger service on that branch ended in 1961, and the rebuilt light railway opened as the Tren de la Costa in 1995.
Pay with SUBE. The line is useful for a Tigre trip when the intermediate stops matter, but the parallel Mitre service from Retiro is usually the simpler direct route from central Buenos Aires. Weekend trains can be crowded around San Isidro and Delta.
Small electric trainsets provide the service rather than full-size commuter trains. Seating is limited and standing room fills quickly during day-trip hours. Wheelchair and step-free access vary by station, so check the operator's current notices when an accessible route is essential.
The route is best for stops such as Barrancas, San Isidro R, and the riverfront side of San Fernando. It does not start at Retiro. From central Buenos Aires, ride the Mitre branch to Bartolomé Mitre, leave that station, and walk across to Avenida Maipú. The transfer is short but not inside a shared paid area.
Tap SUBE at both ends. Bicycles are not accepted on this line under the operator's current AMBA rules. Delta station is close to Tigre's waterfront attractions, while the main Mitre railway ends at a different Tigre station a little farther inland. Check which route serves the stops you need before choosing between them.
