The Belgrano Norte connects Retiro with Villa Rosa along the northwestern side of the metropolitan area. It is useful for Ciudad Universitaria, Aristóbulo del Valle, Boulogne, Don Torcuato, and the suburbs around Del Viso. Cecilia Grierson is the newer station between Del Viso and Villa Rosa.
The Retiro extension of the metre-gauge Central Córdoba railway opened in 1912. It became part of the General Belgrano network after nationalization, and Ferrovías has operated the commuter line since the 1990s.
Pay with SUBE. The line is separate from the Subte gates at Retiro, so leave enough time to find the correct railway concourse and platform. Peak trains can be crowded before the inner-suburban stops.
Belgrano Norte still uses diesel locomotives and conventional coaches rather than electric multiple units. The ride is louder and less consistent than the electrified Mitre branches, and air-conditioning should not be assumed. Station accessibility is mixed, with different platform heights and access routes along the line.
For visitors, Ciudad Universitaria and Aristóbulo del Valle are the most useful inner stops. The route then continues inland through Boulogne, Don Torcuato, Grand Bourg, and Del Viso before Villa Rosa. It does not follow the river suburbs served by the Mitre Tigre branch, even though both railways leave from Retiro and run north.
Tap SUBE at both ends to receive the distance-based fare and Red SUBE benefits. Paper tickets are available at a higher price. The line is metre gauge, with narrower coaches and platforms separate from the neighboring Mitre railway. Verify the exact entrance at Retiro and allow extra time when changing from the Subte or another train.
