Tren Laja–Talcahuano Tren Laja–Talcahuano

The Laja-Talcahuano line has twenty-two stops between Mercado de Talcahuano and Laja. It uses the Biotrén corridor through Concepción and Hualqui, then continues inland beside the Biobío.

Passenger trains used this southern main line long before Biotrén opened in 1999. The present regional pattern preserves the inland connection through San Rosendo while sharing the metropolitan tracks with the newer urban service.

Concepción is the transfer for Biotrén Line 2. The shared stations do not make the two train brands interchangeable. The Laja service has its own destination display and timetable.

San Rosendo was one of Chile's major railway junctions. Its protected workshop complex records the scale of steam-era operations that once supported the southern network.

Regional departures are limited beyond Hualqui. Check the return train before leaving the urban section because road alternatives from the smaller stops can be sparse.

The current three-car fleet entered service in 2021 with climate control, Wi-Fi, information screens, cameras, an accessible toilet, and space for passengers with reduced mobility. It has more seats than a Biotrén unit but can still be busy on the shared urban section.

Use the payment method currently listed by EFE Sur. Staff and sales facilities are concentrated at the larger urban stations.

Most platforms are at grade. Rural approaches may include track crossings and uneven surfaces, so arrange assistance rather than relying only on a map's accessibility label.
